A sucessão de Angela Merkel

Abstract

Angela Merkel ocupa a chancelaria fe deral e lidera o destino da Alemanha desde 2005, em sucessivos governos que passaram por coligações de várias composições. Entre 2005-2009, 2013-2017 e, novamente, no atual governo (até 2021), a União Democrata Cristã (Christliche Demokratische Union, CDU) governou em “Grande Coligação” com o principal partido da oposição, o Partido Social-Democrata alemão (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands, SPD); no segundo governo que chefiou (2009-2013), Merkel foi a líder de uma coligação à direita, com os liberais do FDP (Freie Demokratische Partei). Foi a liderança de Merkel que permitiu à CDU ocupar um lugar de destaque e, até podemos dizê-lo, de dominação do centro do espectro político alemão. E fê-lo através de duas estratégias muito bem-sucedidas: por um lado, conseguiu ocupar as áreas de intervenção daqueles que eram os seus tradicionais partidos de oposição, nomeadamente o SPD e os Verdes (Die Grüne), ao mesmo tempo que concretizou um processo de modernização da CDU no seio da sociedade alemã.
