A guerra não é barata

Abstract

Portugal, pelo menos, desde o final do século XIV, em poucos conflitos armados de grande envergadura internacional se viu chamado a intervir. As guerras onde se envolveu quase sempre se limitaram a escaramuças fronteiriças contra a Espanha ou a combates de pequena escala nas possessões no Oriente, no Brasil ou no continente africano. As grandes excepções ocorreram aquando das Invasões Francesas, no início do século XIX, e, já no século XX, com a participação na Grande Guerra.
