Abstract

A abordagem dos novos-clássicos baseia-se na Teoriadas Expectativas Racionais que sustentaria a obtenção do equilíbrio económico de longo prazo, que de alguma forma já tinha sido alcançado por Léon Walras no sua Teoria de Equilíbrio Geral. Esta abordagem conseguiu chegar à conclusão, através de modelos luxuariamente matemáticos, que os preços dos mercados podem ser determinados de forma independente e não constrangidos aos preconceitos e percepções das falhas prevalecentes entre os participantes no mercado. A ideia de que os mercados financeiros são auto-suficientes na sua correcção e tendem para o equilíbrio continua a ser o paradigma dominante na base dos diversos instrumentos sintéticos e dos modelos de avaliação que têm vindo a desempenhar um papel tão dominante nos mercados financeiros e, por conseguinte, nas decisões políticas. No entanto, a realidade não tem mostradoaderência a esta corrente teórica. Nelson e Plosser concluíram, nas suas pesquisas baseadas em dados norteamericanos, que não podiam rejeitar a hipótese de que o PNB segue um passeio aleatório. Como esta conclusão difere da abordagem nova-clássica?
