Abstract

A justificação para a “guerra preventiva” contra o Iraque basear-se-ia, de acordo com as declarações de Dick Cheney, vice-presidente norte-americano, na ameaça representada pelo programa armamentista iraquiano, que coloca em risco Israel, por um lado, a Arábia Saudita e o Irão, por outro, sob ameaça de se tornar na potência dominante no Próximo e Médio Oriente. Os EUA sublinharam a sua postura unilateralista, dois dias após o discurso do presidente George W.Bush na Assembleira Geral da ONU a 12/09/01, em Camp David, questionando abertamente a razão de ser actual desta instituição.
