The method of decontamination of soils contaminated with hydrocarbons and heavy metals, especially with mercury and its compounds simultaneously in one complex process consisting in thermal desorption of the contaminants into a carrier inert gas, removal of volatile heavy metals from the carrier inert gas by chemisorption to a sorbent and subsequent catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons from the carrier inert gas to harmless products of carbon dioxide and water in order to significantly increase the life of heterogeneous catalysts, and, further, the device for implementing this method.
