Poland, like most developed countries, faces the problem of an aging population. The dynamic growth in the number of the oldest seniors will require eff ective formal and informal care over the elderly. The aim of this study is to estimate the potential demand for immigrant work as carers of the elderly. At the beginning, the scale of offi cial employment of foreigners on the Polish labour market will be shown, followed by a review of research from selected European countries and Poland regarding the employment estimates of immigrants as carers of the elderly. The second part of this article will present a projection of the number of households potentially employing immigrants as carers of the elderly.
