O papel do design no artesanato : desenvolvimento sustentável do artesanato num contexto contemporâneo

Abstract

Abstract: Handicraft is an ancestral production practice, which despite having been reinvented over time, is often put aside in a contemporary context. This happens due to all the technological and production advances, that have developed since the first moments of industrialization. Handicraft is considered a primary form of design, and it's believed that the latter can intervene to make it more sustainable in a contemporary context, in its cultural, social, economic, and environmental aspects. Since currently there are successful examples that work with this type of collaboration and that are presented throughout this dissertation. As a case study, a model of collaboration is proposed, in which all stages of the creative process are developed in collaboration, by a Craftsman and a Designer. The collaboration has a systemic approach, which includes not only the development of the product but also the packaging and graphic image, involving several aspects of design. The main objective is to raise awareness of the value of handicrafts and highlight the importance of this kind of collaboration, to encourage the creation of contemporary products with cultural identity.
