As silenciosas intensidades da Arquitectura

Abstract

Abstract: The silent intensities of architecture arises from the desire to understand a deeper architecture. With this intention, we approach how the different dimensions of architecture relate to the concept of silence. The search for the poetics of silence, creative production and architectural spaces comprehension are all part of the silent path accomplished by man both as creator and user. Architecture’s communication and experience occur essentially through silence, creating a private dialogue between work and user, in an intimate and non-transferable act, that tries to relate the world’s exteriority with the individual’s interiority. Silence is full of meanings and acts through architectural elements capable of transforming the space. Therefore, we reflect on those elements involved in the construction of unique places. Our reflection involves an understanding of how these characteristics are exposed, their meaning and how they are perceived by the user. Given this reflection, we analyze the contributions of Tadao Ando and Louis Kahn, reference cases that, from our perspective, manage to transmit a transcendent environment, through the use of the approached architectural elements, which expressed in something that language cannot translate. Both create unique and authentic atmospheres, shaping spaces that have taken over man’s words.
