Abstract

J. Baudrillard distingue simular e fingir com a imagem de um doente que, simulando uma doença determina em si alguns dos respectivos sintomas, enquanto que o doente que finge apenas faz crer que está doente. Fingir ou dissimular deixa intacto o principio da realidade, a diferença continua a ser clara e apenas está disfarçada, enquanto que a simulação põe em causa a diferença entre o "verdadeiro" e o "falso", o real e o imaginário. Enquanto conhecimento, as construções lógicas interpretando a nossa percepção do real fingem que o são, e a realidade virtual simula-as. Sob este aspecto, o lugar não pode ser o espaço exclusivo de construção da arquitectura, porque, enquanto conhecimento, o real já não se distingue do virtual. Importa também estabelecer a diferença entre a realidade virtual e o ciberespaço. No ciberespaço não existe a intenção de simular a representação convencional do real, embora a ela se possa referir ou aludir, uma vez que em qualquer caso se trata sempre de uma criação humana.
