Arquitectura híbrida : diálogo entre as técnicas construtivas vernaculares e as técnicas construtivas modernas

Abstract

The main intention that motivated the development of this dissertation is the discovery of a dialogue between vernacular techniques and modern techniques, for the benefit of a contemporary architecture. This study intends to understand the mindset of three architects whose recognition is due to the invention of constructive techniques typified by their combination of vernacular proceeding and contemporary methods: Nader Khalili, the iranian architect responsable for developing a constructive technique named “Superadobe”; Simón Vélez, colombian architect whose knowledge and reinterpretation of vernacular construction techniques based on the use of the local bamboo (named Guadua); Michael Reynolds, the american architect who developed the self-sustaining housing unit named “Earthship”. The study pretends to understand the process that inspired this architects to create this techniques, were do their influences come from, which are the principles that rule their ideas and behavior and in what context do they apply them. For a detailed explanation of the way of use of this techniques and methods in architecture practice, a study of the projects constructed by each architect using this ideological principles is performed.
