Abstract

Esta investigação tem como objectivo, conhecer e compreender um pouco do percurso pessoal e profissional, do arquitecto Charles-Edouard Jeanneret - Le Corbusier, e a sua importância no panorama da arquitectura modernista do século XX. Dando particular foco ao que julgamos serem as motivações do arquitecto, em relação à elaboração das suas obras religiosas: a Capela de Notre-Dame-du-Haut Ronchamp, construída entre 1950 e 1955; e o Convento de Sainte Marie de La Tourette, cuja construção data de 1953 e 1960. A investigação destas duas obras religiosas de Le Corbusier, construídas quase no final da sua vida, baseia-se numa análise factual e pessoal, que pretende realçar o sentido de culto e sagrado inerente, e reflectir sobre as motivações do arquitecto em relação às mesmas. Desta forma a abordagem in loco das obras representadas procura analisá-las transportando-nos para a descoberta da sua essência, isto é, do que não é tangível pelo olhar. Realçando, assim, o significado destas obras como marcos da arquitectura Mundial do século XX.
