Os CIAM e Le Corbusier : aspetos da arquitetura e do urbanismo modernos

Abstract

A relação que arquitetura e urbanismo estabelecem entre si e com a natureza é uma característica fundamental da cultura arquitetónica e urbanística moderna. Desenvolvem-se numa paisagem de referência romântica que evoca a experiência da natureza e que uma cidade para milhões de habitantes não deverá ignorar. A nova paisagem constrói-se e surgem modelos concretos sob o traço de Le Corbusier, que se opõem à cidade histórica. A nova arquitetura e o novo urbanismo são máquinas aglutinadoras de intenções éticas e pragmáticas na sua intervenção onde a casa, o habitat, têm de ser individualizados. Mas a novidade não acolhe só simpatias e os Congressos Internacionais de Arquitetura Moderna (CIAM) irão desempenhar um papel estratégico na nova forma de pensar a arquitetura e o urbanismo, que se dissemina globalmente e onde irão surgir consciências culturais locais no seio da própria globalização.
