Abstract

Abstract: Generally speaking it is common sense that the evolution of humanity has undergone changes corresponding to the genesis of her own History, where art appears in the same moment of the human birth in his attempt to communicate with the world. Based on this idea of art we decide to select one of its fields of research and discuss it as precisely as possible. To be able to do that, we choose the theatre and his architecture, to understand not only the underlying temporal evolution, but also the relation between stage, audience and public. Hereupon, our study begins in classical antiquity, specifically at the greek theatre, after that it follows to the roman theatre, the medieval, the renaissance, the elizabethan and to the baroque, until reaching the modern theatre, where we observe a reinventation of the stage design. Here we consider important the work of Wagner, Appia and Craig, as well as Schlemmer (abstract theatre) and Gropius (total theatre) regarding the vanguards of the twentieth century. Last but not least we make reference to projects like the Schaubühne theatre, the Oficina theatre and the Fun Palace.
