Terra Mutatis. Zonas de expansión -urbana- orgánica

Abstract

This creation+research proposal took place around the phenomenon of urban expansion present in the southwest of the city of Pereira. Through the exploration of composting as a method of site-specific artistic production, the artistic operations were formulated and elaborated that relate the ephemeral spaces of civil construction and practices of humus production. To this objective, the category of "Aesthetic Humility" was proposed, which allowed reflection on the artistic creation that uses the earth to take place. The body of operations is composed of: Lombriz (2020), assemblage; Cuidado, lombrices en la vía (2020), series: linocut, video, performance and site-specific installation; Ríos de tierra desembocan aquí (2021), video installation; Zona de expansión orgánica (2021), assemblage; Intestinos (2022), assemblage; and HUMUS (2022), series: digital video installation, performance and site-specific installation. These operations are crossed by the figure of earthworms that fertilize soils and produce humus, a word that means in Latin: earth or soil and that in turn composes the words, human and humility. This work is therefore a newly conceived creative organism that is nourished by our buried relationship of belonging to the earth. It begins in the spaces of civil construction and points its development towards other phenomena and places of subway world, such as mining, transportation and mass graves.
