Abstract

The present work aims to review the different approaches available in the bibliography towards Mutual Support Groups in mental health, performing a critical analysis about these strategies. A systematic search was carried in Redalyc database about articles published between 2010 and 2017, requiring them to be written in Spanish and to have Mutual Support Groups as their central topics. This search returned 313 articles, of which 23 accomplished successfully the inclusion criteria. Results were classified attending to publication year, geographical source and publication place as well as type of article (empirical, review and opinion/comment). Discussion debates about limitations found in the review process. At the end of this work we review, in one hand, the specific conclusion reached by the articles, among which stands out the positive effects of participate into a Mutual Support Group and the methodological proposals, and in the other hand, the general conclusions suggested by the work as a whole.
