Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare the effect of two training programs using a flywheel device (one with constant load and the other with variable load) on power output, in order to identify whether there is a point at which improvements are no longer significant (eccentric plateau). Sixteen university students with experience in strength training participated in the study, divided into two groups. Over a period of 9 weeks, they performed two weekly sessions focused on squats and lunges using a flywheel device. The constant load group consistently used 8 inertia discs, while the variable load group started with 12 discs and finished with 4. The training volume was equal for both groups. Weekly tests were conducted measuring peak concentric power, peak eccentric power, and the percentage of eccentric overload, using a conical pulley connected to a rotary encoder and smartcoach software. Statistical analysis was performed using jasp software through repeated measures anova, after verifying data normality and sphericity. The significance level was set at p < 0.05.
