Abstract

Foster care is a resource aimed at protecting minors in situations of neglect. Following the amendment of the Organic Law 1/1996 on Legal Protection of Minors (Law 26/2015), it has replaced residential care as the first choice for children aged 0 to 6. These children are cared for by families evaluated as suitable. The suitability assessment process includes evaluating the caregivers' competencies to ensure a positive outcome. The most commonly used psychometric tools in this evaluation are the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF-5; Cattell, Cattell, and Cattell, 1993) and the Questionnaire for the Assessment of Adopters, Caregivers, Guardians, and Mediators (CUIDA; Bermejo et al., 2014). This study aims to analyze the relationships between the CUIDA and 16 PF-5 questionnaires in non-relative foster caregivers, finding significant correlations that enhance the objectivity of the suitability assessment process.
