Abstract

Food waste is a problem present in all phases of the food chain, with a great environmental impact due to the use of resources used such as water, land or electricity; and a social impact due to the large amount of food that is thrown away despite being in good condition, either due to its appearance or due to lack of information about the product. In Spain, 25.3Kg per person was wasted in 2022, which represents a total of 1,170,451,281Kg of unused products. To help reduce this impact, technology is of vital importance, especially the smart labeling 'Addvibe' presented by the Elche company Oscillum. This label allows you to know the status of the product in real time through the variation of colors that indicates whether it is edible: yellow, it is edible; green, consume as soon as possible; and blue, discard. Thanks to this innovative technology, the status of the product can be known in real time, being applicable in all phases of the food chain and significantly reducing waste. The use of 'AddVibe' technology offers important benefits to the consumer, including considerable savings and the possibility of leading a healthier life, in addition, it helps combat aesthetic prejudices in food. However, although technology is of great help, education and social awareness around the problem of food waste is also necessary.
