El patrocinio como herramienta de marketing siempre ha ido fuertemente enlazada al mundo de los deportes, siendo con diferencia el mayor medio publicitario en este sector. El presente trabajo busca estudiar el comienzo y el motivo de esta relación patrocinio-deporte, partiendo con el significado de este tipo de herramienta de marketing, para después conocer los tipos que existen y los objetivos que buscan. Una vez estemos familiarizados con esta forma de marketing, investigaremos acerca de su relación con el deporte, buscando los motivos y las distintas formas que se pueden presentar, y haciendo énfasis en la situación de pandemia y postpandemia en el ámbito europeo y nacional. Por último, hacemos un análisis de la historia del patrocinio en un sector actual y creciente como es el de los eSports, disciplina mucho más joven y distinta a los deportes convencionales, con un crecimiento exponencial en este siglo XXI.
