Testosterona y liderazgo

Abstract

En el presente trabajo se estudia la relación entre la testosterona y los comportamientos asociados al liderazgo. Más allá de su papel en la diferenciación sexual secundaria, también es de especial interés la relación de la testosterona con la conducta, ya que parece tener efectos sobre la actividad cerebral en situación críticas para nuestras relaciones sociales. La investigación ha mostrado que la testosterona no sólo está relacionada con la agresión sino que, más bien, está implicada en todo un abanico de conductas orientadas a la consecución y mantenimiento del estatus social (Eisenegger, Haushofer y Fehr, 2011). A partir del enfoque de la testosterona como hormona del estatus, se ha analizado su conexión con el estudio del liderazgo como el rol grupal típicamente asociado a un estatus superior. El examen de la literatura, muestra que la motivación por el estatus asociada a la testosterona, conecta fundamentalmente con procesos de emergencia y mantenimiento del liderazgo de tarea y en menor medida con el liderazgo socioemocional, en el que tendrían un papel relevante otras hormonas sociales. También se ha encontrado, aunque de forma menos clara, que los niveles de testosterona podrían estar relacionados con los resultados del liderazgo.
