Abstract

Cognitive accessibility is the property of those environments, processes, goods, products, services, objects, tools and devices that are intelligible or easily understood. The main population of hospitals are people with physical, cognitive, social limitations... and the need arises for these spaces to be accessible. Therefore, the objective of this final degree work is to evaluate the cognitive accessibility of the Hospital de La Pedrera, in Denia Spain. A route from the second floor to the rehabilitation area was observed and analyzed using an evaluation table based on the Cognitive Accessibility Model where the continuity of the route is lost. These were classified into postulates and represented in a plan. A total of 32 postulates were found reflecting the absence of accessible resources. The most problematic postulate located was References-Interferences (R-I) (34%), followed by Semantics and Labyrinth Effect (19%), Threshold Effect (16%) and finally lack of Topological Cleanliness and Technology (6%). The interpretation of the results reflects the hospital's need for accessible environments such as having signage, technology, signage and/or use of colors as a cognitive tool. Therefore, this study serves to give a first vision of the cognitive accessibility in La Pedrera Hospital and how this can contribute to the development of the hospital being the first step to adapt it.
