Abstract

Police Mediation is a growing technique used by the different local police forces in Spain in which a team made up of local police officers who have specific training in resolving private conflicts intervenes with the parties involved in the conflict in order to transform an existing conflict that causes disagreements in coexistence, into a satisfactory agreement for both in which both parties end up obtaining a benefit. In the present work and through the reading of various bibliographical sources as well as through the realization of a practical study applied in a municipality of Castellón (Burriana) in which the Police Mediation is being developed since the year 2013, the result is obtained that as a result of said process of police mediation and thanks to the high rate of agreements reached in this process, it is possible to reduce not only the number of conflicts that reach a judicial process (thus avoiding the collapse of courts) but also decreases the number of criminal acts. Both issues increase the trust that society places in the police forces.
