Abstract

La esclerosis múltiple es una enfermedad neurodegenerativa desmielinizante, cuya etiología más aceptada es de naturaleza autoinmune. Es la segunda causa más frecuente de discapacidad neurológica en adultos jóvenes. La degeneración funcional varía ampliamente dependiendo del tipo de EM y progresión en el tiempo. El BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) es una neurotrofina encargada de la supervivencia neuronal que podría tener un peso considerable a la hora de paliar los síntomas de la EM. El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido llevar a cabo una revisión sistemática de la bibliografía existente respecto al ejercicio físico y su relación con el BDNF en pacientes con EM. Se llevó a cabo una búsqueda en las bases de datos de PubMed, Embase y Scopus, los artículos fueron evaluados según la escala PEDro posteriormente. Se incluyeron 14 estudios y obtuvieron un total de puntos entre 6-8, mostrando una calidad metodológica aceptable, aunque por las características de los estudios no hubo cegamiento de sujetos, terapeutas o evaluadores. La generación de BDNF inducida por ejercicio a corto plazo fue significativa, y también en menor medida lo fue a largo plazo.
