Succession law in Spain has been defined by a system of legitimate inheritances that has dealt with reserving a quantity of assets that the deceased cannot dispose of if it is not in accordance with the law, with the objective that such assets fall on the forced heirs. This system has facilitated the possibility of the causer to improve or unequal a legitimary heir with respect to the others. For this reason, the collation must be taken into account, aiming to achieve the equivalence of quotas between forced heirs. To carry out the collation practice, the donations that the testator can make will be taken into account, valuing these at the time of partition, so that the share of each heir can be calculated and what is deducted from his part of the correspondent inheritance

El Derecho de sucesiones en España ha venido marcado por un sistema de legítimas que se ha ocupado de reservar una cantidad de bienes de los cuales el causante no puede disponer si no es conforme a la ley, y con el objetivo de que dichos bienes recaigan sobre los herederos forzosos. Este sistema de legítimas ha dado la posibilidad al causante de mejorar o desigualar a un legitimario respecto de los demás. La colación se encarga de conseguir la equivalencia de cuotas entre herederos forzosos. Para realizar la práctica de la colación se tendrán en cuenta las liberalidades que el testador puede realizar, valorando estas en el momento de la partición, de manera que se pueda calcular la cuota de cada heredero y lo que se descuenta de la parte de la herencia que le corresponda
