Abstract

In this work we have studied the viability of interspecific crosses of P. armeniaca x P. salicina and vice versa, though the manual pollination in both ways. The viability of the crosses was assessed by the percentage of fruit set regard the total of pollinated flowers. In addition, the percentages of in vitro seed germination have also been evaluated, which provide us valuable information regarding the final feasibility of hybrids generation. The results have generally shown a higher percentage of fruit set when the female parent was apricot, with a mean value of 14% of fruit set, compared to 3% when japanese plum was used as maternal parent. The feasibility of crosses japanese plum x japanese plum also have been evaluated, with 17% on average of fruit set. The percentages of in vitro seed germination obtained were generally very high
