Suplementación de Magnesio

Abstract

Magnesio, desde un punto de vista funcional, participa en diversas funciones entre las que cabe destacar la síntesis proteica, cofactor de numerosas enzimas, función muscular, consumo de oxígeno, transmisión del impulso nervioso, balance electrolítico y control del sistema inmune. La deficiencia de magnesio puede poner en peligro la capacidad de realizar y completar el ejercicio, reduciendo el rendimiento deportivo en actividades de larga duración. En la presente revisión, se realizó una búsqueda en la base de datos ¿Medline¿, y solo se encontró una publicación que abordó el tema de la recuperación con suplementos de Mg. En dicha publicación no se observaron cambios significativos en la recuperación después del ejercicio en los sujetos que consumieron el suplemento o el placebo. Los sujetos con niveles altos de ingesta y niveles sanguíneos normales no ob tuvieron beneficio de la suplementación de Mg. Además, no existen suficientes estudios sobre el efecto de la suplementación con Mg para la recuperación de lesiones.
