The localization of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in the colon tumours was studied with the indirect Coons test. The localization of CEA in malignant cells was different from that in the normal colon mucosa. In addition, an essential secretion of this antigen may occur in neoplasms. The alteretion of the antigen position in pathologically changed cells or its secretion, differing from that in normal tissue, is referred to as the antigenic translocation.
