Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between eating disorders and female athletes. To do so, we compared female athletes and non-athletes in terms of developing eating disorders, identified the main factors that contribute to this disorder, and analyzed whether or not there is a relationship between them based on the type of sport. A systematic review was conducted of 12 articles that were selected for meeting certain inclusion criteria. These articles were used to analyze whether or not there is a relationship between eating disorders and female athletes. The results showed that eating disorders can appear in the lives of female athletes just as they can in the lives of non-athletic women. The main difference lies in each individual's approach to the challenges they face and the impact of each of the risk or protective factors
