Resiliencia. Revisión Bibliográfica.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the evolution of the study of the concept of resilience, in which two generations can be distinguished. Resilience refers to the capacity of human beings to cope with and emerge enriched from adversity. It also briefly reviews the variety of definitions of resilience (the notion of adversity, process, and positive adaptation must always be present), and the models and theories proposed over the last three decades. Finally, we will examine some of the factors that have been proposed to be associated with it (external support, self-esteem, self-concept, self-control, locus of control, coping strategies, optimism, and sense of humor), and reflect on the relationship of this emerging construct with physical and mental well-being.
