Abstract

In Pozo Alcón, livestock exploitation is a traditional activity that has been declining due to the change in land use. For this reason, the farms that provide a forage resource are of special importance for the farmers that remain. Finding the Forage Units (UF) allows to obtain the capacity of livestock load, whose knowledge is a fundamental task for the sustainability of the farms. This study focuses on obtaining the stocking capacity of an abandoned farm in the municipality. To do this, the Modified Point Quadrat method (Passera et al., 1983) is used through linear transects for data collection in the field. Then the forage potential of the farm was calculated, the results obtained indicate that there is an amount of 538.2 UF ha-1 year-1. Being the capacity of cattle load in UGM of 0,13 and expressed in UGO of 0,8 in the area of study.
