The general mechanisms of antibiotic action on pathogenic bacteria and their relationship with the emergence of bacterial resistance, a serious problem in global public health. Alternatives for treating bacterial infections are proposed, such as phage therapy, nanotechnology, and immunotherapy, taking into account the social and economic impact of resistance in a drug-based medical system. Also policies related to the integration of personalized therapies. Alternative therapies are compared to conventional antibiotic use, analyzing their advantages and disadvantages in terms of effectiveness, specificity, safety, side effects, cost, accessibility, and frequency of resistance development. Finally, the posibility of integrating these therapies into real clinical settings is analyzed, with proposed applications for patients, such as mixed and personalized therapies, which aim to provide more accessible, effective, and safer care, ensuring patient well-being and optimizing treatment against resistant bacterial infections.
