Abstract

In the organic olive growing one of the main problems is the control of vegetation cover. One option is to use as livestock feed, thus the olive grove by improving soil conditions and nutrient also benefits. We performed a calculation of the pastoral value of herbaceous cover of an organic olive grove known as "Cortijo el Tobazo" located in Alcaudete (Jaen). The method used to collect field data using linear transects have been adapted to the calculation of stocking. The results show that the average feed units (UF) UF ranges over 600 UF * yr-1. The permissible stocking, which has been expressed as livestock units (UGM) and sheep units (UV), is 0.2 UGM and 1.4 UV.
