Anquiloglosia y lactancia materna

Anquiloglosia y lactancia materna

Abstract

Breastfeeding is the most complete food that a newborn can be offered. When choosing a method of feeding WHO recommends an exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months, which is recommendable to extend up to two years old together with a complementary feeding. Ankyloglossia is a congenital pathology in which the fold of skin that joins the tongue to the bottom of the mouth, the sublingual frenulum, is too short or thick and due to its anatomy, it causes irregularities when the tongue needs to move in a normal way. This restiction of movement is related to language disorders or problems while nursing mainly; although it is also related, to a lesser extent, with problems when sleeping or with the appearance of gastrointestinal symptons. The reasons which may lead to an early abandonment of breastfeeding are many, but eliminating the posible obstacles makes mothers’ job easier, being ankyloglossia one of these posible factors which makes the proccess difficult, which it becomes a problem to stress when seeking a breastfeeding as successful as posible. The aim of this revisión is finding if an association between the appearance of problems during feeding and the child’s ankyloglossia exists. To reach this goal,a bibliographical revision in different databases has been carried out.The results obtained lead us to watch that a relationship between the difficulties while breatfeeding and the frenulum disorders, especially during the moment of sucking and latching to the nipple exists. Wide researches related to the tools and diagnostic criteria about this pathology in the future are needed.
