Abstract

The land of the knowledge of the stocking capacity of a territory and in particular of a land dedicated to livestock is a real economic and environmental problem, since problems such as erosion, loss of biodiversity, and increased economic outlays when feeding livestock. In this case we have carried out the study of the stocking capacity on a land located in Campillo de Arenas, province of Jaén, dedicated in the past to the feeding of sheep, goats, cattle and horses. The method used for data collection in the field has been through linear transects with the Modified Point Quadrat method, Passera et al. (1983). And the method used for the calculation of the stocking density has been the methodology of the calculation of the pastoral value of Daget and Poissonet (1979) using the specific quality index of each taxon (Is) and the specific contribution (Cs). By applying this method, we conclude that in this farm of one hectare can be fed at most, and in spring, 0.1 Units of Livestock (UGM), or what is the same, 0.8 Units of Sheep (UGO).
