Discapacidad Intelectual y Covid-19

Abstract

The new situation caused by Covid-19 has affected the population as a whole, but we cannot put aside the effects that it has generated in the group of people with intellectual disabilities (ID), since such effects are devastating. Today we can only talk about the short-term effects of this virus, since the long-term effects are still unknown. In addition, people with ID have difficulty understanding and processing the information we receive every day about the virus, which is important to avoid contagion and to be able to comply with security measures to reduce the incidence rate. This information overload can produce negative emotions. Within the group of people with intellectual disabilities we find people with Down Syndrome based on the Down Compostela Foundation. They learn the use of new technologies, since it favors social inclusion.
