[EN] Delivery is the main risk factor for the incidence of perineal trauma leads to increased morbidity later both short- and long-term lowering the quality of life of women. Perineal massage is being performed as a method of prevention of perineal trauma. Objective: To determine the existing evidence on the effectiveness of perineal massage during pregnancy and delivery to prevent postpartum complications. Methodology: We performed a literature search in different databases: Cochrane, Pubmed, CINAHL and Cuiden plus. We have selected two meta-analyzes and two clinical trials. Conclusions: Prenatal perineal massage reduces the incidence of perineal trauma (mainly episiotomies) and pain at 3 months after delivery. Perineal massage during the second stage of labor reduces the incidence of trauma and 3rd and 4th degree episiotomy rates concomitant with spontaneous tearing.
