La espondilitis anquilosante (EA) es una enfermedad reumática inflamatoria de evolución crónica que afecta fundamentalmente al esqueleto axial (tórax, columna vertebral y pelvis), siendo la presencia de sacroileítis el hallazgo radiológico característico. El objetivo de los tratamientos actuales, consiste en reducir al mínimo la actividad inflamatoria de la enfermedad, que mejore los signos y síntomas como inflamación articular, dolor, rigidez, y preserve la capacidad funcional manteniendo la calidad de vida del paciente. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica de la literatura científica existente en las bases de datos Medline, PEDro, Cochrane, ScienceDirect y SCOPUS. Se incluyeron los ensayos clínicos aleatorizados con un máximo de 10 años de antigüedad disponibles a texto completo en lengua inglesa o española con una puntuación de al menos 5 en la escala PEDro.
Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic course inflammatory rheumatic disease that primarily affects the axial skeleton (thorax, spine and pelvis), the presence of sacroiliitis the characteristic radiographic finding. The aim of current treatments is to minimize the inflammatory disease activity, improve the signs and symptoms such as joint swelling, pain, stiffness, and preserve the functional capacity while maintaining the quality of life of patients. A literature research was conducted in Medline, PEDro, Cochrane, ScienceDirect and SCOPUS database. This study included Randomized clinical trials with more than 10 years old and available in full text in English or Spanish with a score of at least 5 on the PEDro scale.
