Abstract

The current proyect proposal is about the design of a research initiation project based on a multicenter Randomized Clinical Trial. The main objective is to verify the differential efficacy of AAI in the management of physiological activation and pre-surgical anxiety in the pediatric population and their parents in comparison with the conventional intervention. There will be a single intervention session the day before the surgery and the accompaniment with the therapy dog during the transfer to the waiting room of the operating theatre. The estimated duration of the full program is about thirty-three months. Optimistic results are expected in both studied aspects being clear the feasibility of incorporating the therapy dog into nursing practice is clear. The scientific literature on AAI in pre-surgical anxiety is scarce, so more evidence is needed to provide veracity in this regard. Therefore, this work seeks to promote future research in this field.
