Nanocarbons represent useful scaffolds in the preparation of next-generation nanostructured catalysts, and their chemical functionalization through covalent or non-covalent modification is becoming an important tool to introduce anchor points, thus obtaining hybrid nanostructured materials with many applications in the area of chemical catalysis. This work reports on the structure and catalytic applications of chemically modified nanocarbons, based on fullerene, carbon nanotubes, graphene, nano-onions, nanohorns and nanodiamonds. Such hybrid materials catalyze chemical reactions important in advanced chemistry, such as oxidation reactions of alcohols and aldehydes, hydrogenation reactions and C-C coupling reactions.
