Abstract

Aim. This review tried to prove sense of coherence as a variable of exposure in positive and negative consequences of caregiving. Design. A systematic review was carried out based in 36 original studies that were obtained from different data bases, besides an inverse search from those that we had already obtained was done, with stipulated match string and filters. Moreover, we applied inclusion and quality criteria. Results. Results related to both, positive and negative, consequences were obtained. According to positive consequences we made different categories: “Perceived health”, “Quality of life and well-being” and “others”. Belonging to negative consequences, we carried out, different categories: Burden, depression, anxiety and stress, and others. Conclusions. Generally, the conclusions that we obtained were that since the sense of coherence seems to indicate a positive relation with positive consequences in caregiving and an inverse relation with negative consequences. We suggest the sense of coherence as an important, predictor factor of caregiving consequences; however more searches are necessary to justify the results presented here.
