Abstract

The purpose of this Final Degree Project is to analyze the relationship between biodiversity and plate tectonics. It focuses on a synthesis of some of the recent conceptual models that suggest that mantle dynamics exerted significant control over the assembly and rupture of supercontinents throughout Earth's history, thus providing a key to assess the history of evolution and destruction of the continental crust essential for understanding the history of life. Specifically, we will focus mainly on two eras (Mesozoic and Cenozoic) to study how plate tectonics affected characteristic living beings within each of these eras. We will also talk about how this plate tectonics can affect the planet in the future.
