Abstract

The research of the mitotic chromosome has been constant through the years. Due to the lack of means and controversies that arose after different studies it has been difficult to explain the higher-order levels of the chromosome folding during mitosis. In this project it is reviewed, from an historical perspective, how the chromosome understanding in eukaryotes has progressed since the classical studies to nowadays, after the technology outbreak and the use of the new methods that have had a direct impact on our knowledge in chromosomal condensation, wrapping up with a small comparative between eukaryotic organisms from a conservative evolutionary perspective.
