Teatro y discapacidad intelectual

Abstract

[EN]According to the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) (2004), intellectual disability is shown in the significant limitations that an individual has in his interaction with the environment; therefore, aforementioned limitations do not only depend on the lack of the subject’s adaptive abilities, but also how facilitator the environment may be. It can be stressed that the environment positively contributes to an individual’s development with intellectual disability when this environment is prone to create support contexts. Art has shown to be of great usefulness with respect to this matter. Being drama an artistic and body activity, it may be considered to be effective on the development of communicative, expressive and adaptive abilities of individuals with intellectual disability. This paper analyses the reasons which support the previous statement, developing intellectual disability, drama, communication, social abilities and drama applied to the improvement of adaptation.
