The primary object of this paper is to make a survey of some of the experimental methods which have been employed to determine the minimum oil film thickness in an operating journal bearing with intent of recommending the best method to be used by further investigators. A secondary objective is to include as many as possible of the various methods since their descriptions are widely disperaed throughout the literature.
