Miedo y codicia en los mercados financieros : ¿es realmente incorrecto usar estas emociones para invertir?

Abstract

En este trabajo se construye un índice que replica el “Fear & Greed Index” de la CNN utilizando los siete (7) factores descritos por la propia cadena para su construcción. Se utiliza un modelo de redes neuronales y el paradigma de aprendizaje supervisado, se verifica cuáles son los factores que tienen mayor peso en el resultado final para luego aplicar la misma metodología y obtener un nuevo índice sólo de estos factores predominantes. Se concluye que el resultado es virtualmente el mismo, pero con la ventaja de necesitar menor cantidad de información de entrada. Por último, se verifica la posibilidad de utilizar el índice construido como un indicador para tomar decisiones de inversión. Se plantea una estrategia, la cual tiene en cuenta el valor diario del índice aquí construido, para tomar acciones de compra o venta. Luego, se compara su resultado con el obtenido por una estrategia de “buy & hold”1 del ETF2 SPY. La estrategia utilizando el índice obtuvo un retorno de -6.09% en 17 operaciones y la de “buy and hold” -10.4%. Esto permite concluir que la utilización del índice construido para tomar decisiones de inversión es acertada.
