Retornos estadísticamente anormales en los períodos electorales argentinos entre 2013 y 2020 : un estudio de eventos

Abstract

Nueva información puede afectar los retornos que ofrece el mercado de acciones. Esta Tesis estudia cómo la información que se revela durante los períodos electorales afecta el mercado de acciones. El estudio es realizado para el mercado de acciones argentino durante el período 2013-2020. En particular, la Tesis estudia la presencia de retornos anormales en distintas ventanas de tiempo antes, durante y después del día de los comicios. La Tesis no encuentra evidencia para validar la hipótesis inicial de que se da un retorno anormal promedio durante el día de las elecciones. Tampoco se encuentra evidencia en favor de la hipótesis de que los retornos anormales cumulativos promedio son distintos de 0 en el período de tiempo [-5; +5] alrededor del día del evento. Sin embargo, se encuentra evidencia en favor de retornos anormales en ventanas de tiempo distintas a las sospechadas originalmente. También se encuentra una alta dispersión en los retornos anormales en el día del evento. Adicionalmente, los resultados obtenidos son relativamente independientes a las ventanas de estimación utilizadas en el estudio de eventos. Conocer el efecto y la dirección de los retornos anormales es de importancia para planificar estrategias financieras y entender con mayor profundidad el comportamiento general del mercado de acciones durante períodos electorales.
