Abstract

La diversidad fósil de Colombia ha sido poco estudiada y no se comprende las dinámicas que llevaron a el establecimiento de esta. Se sabe que en gran parte del Cenozoico solo había taxones de Gondwana, Marsupiales, Xenarthos entre otros, pero al cerrarse el istmo de Panamá se dio el Gran Intercambio Biótico de las Américas GABI. En el GABI migraron mamíferos de Norte a Sur América y viceversa, pero estos mamíferos estaban adaptados a ecosistemas de sabana, por tanto, se propone un corredor de sabanas que facilitó la entrada y dispersión de estos animales. Para revisar esto se analizó el microdesgaste dental en piezas dentarias de bóvidos fósiles encontrados en el Valle del Cauca para determinar su dieta, cuantificándose el número de rasguños y pozos como variables definitorias del comportamiento alimenticio de estos herbívoros, bien sea como pastadores o ramoneadores. Se trabajó con 24 dientes de bóvidos fósiles y una hemimandíbula pertenecientes a la colección de Gheny Krigsfield y 8 dientes de vacas domésticas, en los cuales se revisó el microdesgaste en tres áreas del protocono para determinar el desgaste total de la columna de esmalte y con ello calcular el índice de microdesgaste.
