Abstract

La resistencia bacteriana es el principal problema al que tuvieron que enfrentarse los científicos que trabajaron el descubrimiento y desarrollo de antibióticos betalactámicos, puesto que esta rasgo es característico en los microrganismos y lo han desarrollaron y evolucionado desde hace 30.000 años (D¿Costa, 2011). Los antibióticos betalactámicos son los medicamentos usados preponderantemente en la terapéutica antibacteriana. Sin embargo, el uso irracional de estos medicamentos ha provocado la generación de mecanismos de resistencia por parte de los microorganismos a estos fármacos. La resistencia a antibióticos betalactámicos, se puede producir por diferentes mecanismos, siendo la producción de betalactamasas el más importante por su frecuencia y eficacia. Los genes que codifican por betalactamasas pueden ser cromosómicos o se pueden encontrar en plásmidos, por tanto puede haber una transferencia vertical u horizontal de dichos genes y además pueden tener una expresión génica constitutiva o inducible.
