Abstract

Los accidentes cerebrovasculares (ACV) son la tercera causa de muerte en Colombia y una de las primeras en el mundo, estos accidentes se dan por una obstrucción, ya sea por un trombo o embolo, o por una hemorragia. Su tratamiento farmacológico actual se basa en el uso de un agente trombolítico llamado activador tisular del plasminógeno el cual busca generar la reperfusión de la zona obstruida y así reestablecer el flujo de oxígeno y glucosa, este tratamiento solo actúa entre las 3 o 4 horas posteriores al ictus isquémico y por ello algunas investigaciones buscan tratamientos que busquen otro mecanismo, la neuroprotección.
