Abstract

Tras las oportunidades presentadas por el modelo de industrialización por sustitución de importación implementado en Latinoamérica, se presentaron muchas iniciativas para desarrollar nuevos proyectos en estos países con el fin de evitar los impuestos y aprovechar los bajos costos de producción y distribución. La ciudad de Cali, Colombia, contaba con un gran canal comercial que ampliaba sus ingresos con la incursión de mercados extranjeros, logrando así dar un crecimiento a la economía industrial de la región. Entre las empresas que decidieron realizar esta incursión se encuentra Celanese Corporation of America, quien entró a Cali como Celanese de Colombia S.A, pasando por varias etapas, que fueron motivo de investigación en este texto, desde un gran éxito hasta su total liquidación bajo el nombre de Quintex S.A. Por otro lado, se encuentra la caja de compensación Comfandi, que empezó como una ayuda económica a través de subsidios familiares para los trabajadores por parte de las empresas con el fin de contrarrestar la crisis económica de los años noventa y terminó por convertirse en la caja de compensación más grande del Valle del Cauca con un amplio portafolio de servicios. El objetivo de este texto es hacer un recorrido por la historia de estas empresas y mostrar el impacto de estas en la economía de la ciudad de Cali teniendo en cuenta sus momentos de éxito y de crisis. After the opportunities presented by the model of industrialization by substitution of import implemented in Latin America, they presented many initiatives to develop new projects in these countries in order to avoid the taxes and to take advantage of the low costs of production and distribution. The city of Cali, Colombia, it was relying on a great commercial channel that it was extending his income with the incursion of foreign markets, managing this way to give a growth to the industrial economy of the region. Between the companies that decided to realize this incursion Celanese Corporation is of America, who entered Cali as Celanese of Colombia S.A, happening for several stages, which were a motive of investigation in this text, from a great success up to his total liquidation down the name Quintex S.A. On the other hand, one finds the box of compensation Comfandi, which it began as an economic aid across familiar subsidies for the workers on the part of the companies in order to offset the economic crisis of the nineties and to end for turning into the biggest box of compensation of the Valley of the Cauca with a wide portfolio of services. The aim of this text is to do a tour for the history of these companies and to show the impact of these in the economy of the city of Cali bearing in mind his moments of success and of crisis.
